Pillar of Sidney City Schools to Join Hall of Honor

The Sidney City Schools Hall of Honor will increase membership to 131 on Friday April 12, 2019. The 26th annual induction ceremony will take place in the Sidney High School Auorium beginning at 7:00pm. The Hall represents alumni, retired employees, and supporters of the school district who have positively impacted the community, excelled in their profession, or contributed to make a lasting impression on the world.

Of those receiving the highest honor bestowed by Sidney City Schools this year is Timothy Bickel, a pillar of education in Sidney City Schools during his years of service and a pillar of the Sidney community for a lifetime.

Fellow Hall of Honor inductee Tom Clark wrote that Tim “exhibited outstanding organizational skills and possessed excellent rapport with staff and students.” These skills helped steer learning in Sidney City Schools for over three decades and validate his induction.

Many accolades rolled in with the nomination of Ardiss Willman Luce (SHS 1967) to the Sidney City Schools Hall of Honor. One of the strongest came from former Russia principal Doug Barhorst who called her his best hire for that Shelby County school district. "She made art relevant in Russia," he recalled recently.

The roots of Kathy Lindsey's service to humanity can be found at Sidney High School from where she graduated in 1967. During her senior year she wanted to support the children at St. Jude's Hospital and organized a walk to raise funds for that cause. Almost 50 years later she is set to receive the highest honor bestowed by the Sidney City Schools, induction into the Hall of Honor. The ceremony is set for Friday April 15 at 7:30pm in the SHS auditorium with a gymnasium reception to follow. Both events are fully open to the public. Joining Lindsey in the class of 2016 are fellow alums Rob Decker (1978), Marj Dunnavant (1954), and Charles G. Rhyan (1961). With their inclusion the Hall will have 119 members.
