Four new inductees were elected to the Sidney City Schools Hall of Honor this week and will be enshrined on Friday evening April 17, 2020 at Sidney High School with a 6pm gymnasium reception preceding the 7pm auditorium induction, marking the debut of a new format. The public is invited to attend both components of this 27th annual event. The Hall will have 135 members with these additions.
Chairman Rudy Keister (SHS 1981) offered an overview of the selections, "The Hall of Honor committee is enthused with the 2020 induction class. This unique and deserving foursome is quite diverse. We are anxious for the Sidney schools community to learn about the great contributions these individuals have made in their vocations and home communities. These four emerged from a very strong field of candidates, many of whom could be elected in the future." All are Sidney High School graduates and three should be in Sidney for the festivities including interactions with current students on the day of the ceremony.
Congressman Warren Davidson (SHS 1988) was appointed to the United States House of Representatives in mid-2016 and has been re-elected twice. The Troy resident serves the 8th Ohio district including areas south and west of Shelby County. After high school he enlisted in the Army where he earned an appointment to West Point. Following graduation and his service term, he earned an MBA from Notre Dame and enjoyed a successful business career before entering politics. Davidson will become the second Hall of Honor member to have served in Congress, joining Benjamin LeFevre (HoH 2001, US House 1879-87).
Retired Sidney High math teacher and boys soccer coach Eric Harlamert (SHS 1976) made enduring connection with those under his tutelage, resulting from some three decades with each. When an assistant soccer coach was needed "Rug" volunteered, learned the game, soon became head coach, and established a highly successful and respected program. He also assisted with baseball for a similar period.
Erin Johnson (SHS 2000, Co-Valedictorian) began her television production career in the Dayton market and quickly moved up the ladder and across the country to her current post as the Emmy-winning Executive Producer of "Entertainment Tonight." She recently made an on-camera appearance as the show marked episode number 10,000.
The late Rob Joslin (SHS 1971) was a local farmer who saw the big picture and was a major part of it both nationally and internationally. He held multiple leadership roles in the agricultural industry including President of the American Soybean Association. Joslin was also a Rotarian and Edison State trustee.
Specific individual biographies of each recipient will be released in the spring as the April 17 induction approaches. "When we tell their full stories, we hope to make our community proud and to inspire current students, consistent with the Hall of Honor Mission Statement. This group's mixture again includes local impact and excellence elsewhere. The Hall of Honor has always recognized both," Chairman Keister concluded.
